Garage Conversions
If you have an existing carport, you can greatly benefit from a carport to garage conversion that allows you to have additional space, besides being used to park your car. A garage conversion can also give you a brand new family room, home theater, an extra living room or bed room, home office or any other use you can think of. An ideal situation would be one where the front part of the garage could house your vehicle, while the rest of the garage is turned into a living space.
A garage conversion allows you to create extra space at a cost that's much lower than making an addition to the house. You already have a room, and with some creativity and planning, you can easily convert your garage into livable spaces, like a family room or a bedroom. The focus should be on having a livable space that looks like an integral part of the house. This means that your garage conversion must include heating and air conditioning, new electrical fittings and additional plumbing, if necessary. If you are planning to convert your garage into your bedroom, an attached bath is a must. If you have a double garage, you can even consider portioning off the space, so that the front part of the garage functions as your carport, while the rear comprises your living space.
Check with your local Tucson, AZ area building authorities about special requirements that are needed for a garage conversion. For instance, if your garage conversion affects the drainage system, you may need to apply for special permits. If in doubt, ask for the advice of your surveyor. The time to get your permits in place is before you start work on the project.

We own an old home (1942) near downtown / heights area, around 1110 sq. ft. We have plenty of room on our lot to add a master suite in the place of our second driveway, we would also like to add on the utility to have it inside the home instead of out in the garage. I have plans drawn up but need blueprints done, I am an interior designer so I have a pretty good idea of what I want but am definitely open to idea's / changes. We are excited about making this addition to our home sometime in the next year, we'll have to before we have a second child.
